Obituary

Roosevelt Walker was born in Palestine, TX on December 23, 1932, to Mr. Joe Walker and Mrs. Lizzie Walker. He attended Flint Hill but did not complete his education due to having to work to support himself and his family. In pursuit of a better life, Roosevelt moved to Dallas where he started his career in construction at Texas Bethletic Construction Company, moved on to Austin Construction, and later Granite Construction from which he retired.

Roosevelt Walker was first introduced to Christ as a child at Brown Springs Baptist Church in Palestine, TX. In 2011, he rededicated his life to Christ, joined Miracle Temple Fellowship Church East (Fredrick E. Lawrence, Pastor), and was baptized. During his time at MTFC East, he served faithfully. When asked what his plans were regarding the ministry, he replied, "I am going to stick around to see what the end is going to be".

Roosevelt loved construction, gardening, fishing, Home Depot "his mall", and spending time with his family. Driven by the challenges he faced as a child, he was determined to do all that he could to ensure that "no child was left behind". As a result, he and his late wife, Marion Walker, went on to raise three generations in which they instilled alot of tenacity, wisdom, and love." He was driven, strong, and resilient. He was known for his wit, and stern, teachable moments. Roosevelt never shied away from an opportunity to share his mistakes and life experiences with the younger generation. He was honest and transparent. Those who were blessed to sit and glean from him will never forget the wisdom that he imparted.

Through it all, He knew that the Lord's hands upon his life were the only reason he had managed to live eighty- nine wonderful years. He knew where his help came from and always thanked the Lord for blessing him. Even with dementia, Roosevelt always remembered his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. If he was able, he was present and active in their lives.

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." - Psalm 73:26

After a lifetime of hard work, the Lord took Roosevelt home, Tuesday, October 18, 2022, to take his rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lizzie Walker; his brothers, Sammie Lee and Ocie Lee Walker; his wives, Gracie Mae Walker, Johnnie Walker, and Marion Walker; and his son, Larry Johnson.

He leaves behind his children: Francine Lynn (Tommy), Geraldine Walker, Wyvern Britton, and Clifford Johnson (Teresa) (Gracie Mae Walker, Mother); Rosemary Walker, John Robert Walker, Pat Crear (Richard), Ernest Thompson, Kenneth Thompson, Patricia Williams (Johnnie Walker, Mother); Veronica Clark, Dale Clark, Michael Clark, and Kevin Clark (Marlene Clark, Mother); Armanda Walker and Quinci Walker (Marion Walker, Mother). His legacy is extended through the lives of a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
