Obituary

Willie James Newman was born on December 20, 1952, in Paris, Texas, to Roscoe Newman and Fairy McChristion. He passed away on October 21, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, leaving cherished memories of a life marked by laughter, kindness, and love for his family.

Willie graduated from Estacado High School in 1970 and later attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. Throughout his working years, he was employed with Frito-Lay in Lubbock, Kwikset in Sherman, and Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

As an adult, Willie confessed Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized in Sherman, Texas. His faith held an important place in his life.

He was outgoing and jovial; Willie had a smile that welcomed others and he shared his wisdom that could brighten anyone’s day. He never met a stranger and had a natural gift for connecting with people. His friendly manner, understanding heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to those who knew him. He was especially protective of his siblings and family, expressing his love through his care and concern for their well-being.

Willie enjoyed writing poetry, giving expression to his thoughts and feelings through words. He was also a devoted lover of old-school R&B music, finding joy in the melodies and lyrics that spoke to his expressive spirit. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Newman; his mother, Fairy McChristion; his sister Wilmer Larry, and his brothers-in-laws, Robert Chance and Carlos Steele.

Willie leaves to cherish his memory his son, Darnell Newman (Eshah); his grandchildren, Essence Newman, Alexandra Newman, Daelyn Newman, Eliesha Rhone, and Khalid Rhone; his sisters, Eunice Chance and Tracey Steele; his niece, Hope McCullough (Charles); his nephew, Daryl Brown Jr.; and other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Willie James Newman will be remembered for the laughter he shared, the kindness he extended, and the love he held for his family. His warm smile and welcoming spirit will remain treasured in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
