Obituary

Willie Lee Neroes, Sr. was born June 12, 1947, in Los Angeles, California to the parentage of the late
Ira and Alma T. (Briggs) Neroes. To this union, seven loving children were born. Along with his parents
and siblings, Willie later moved to Terrell, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized
at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Terrell, Texas.

Willie attended Burnett Public School in Terrell, Texas where he played clarinet and oboe in the
marching band and graduated in 1965. After graduating from high school, Willie attended Bishop
College in Dallas, Texas and was later drafted in the United States Army in 1968. While serving his
country, he fought in the Vietnam War where he was a part of the 3rd Infantry Division. Willie received
two Purple Hearts and many other awards for his service, and was honorably discharged after two
years.

On March 2, 1995, Willie married his beloved soulmate, June Upshaw Neroes. To this union, Amber
Neroes was born. Their beautiful and loving family now included Willie's three children from a
previous marriage, Stephanie, Willie Jr., and Damon, and June's two children from a previous
marriage, Angel and April.

Willie was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who worked hard
to support his family and serve the community. He was a volunteer police officer with the Lancaster
Police Department and the only Black officer at the time. Willie was a dedicated employee at the
United States Postal Service where he held a number of positions, played softball in the company
league, and retired after 40 years of service.

Willie always had a passion for helping others. He was a bus driver for The "Exciting" Singing Hills
Baptist Church where he drove church members to and from Sunday services. Willie was a
committed league bowler who achieved a perfect 300 game on two occasions. He loved to travel and
spend vacations with his family. A steadfast supporter, Willie embraced every opportunity to be
present at his family's events and achievements.
