Obituary

Wendell Ferguson, 96, went home to glory on June 14, 2023, surrounded by family.

He was born to parents James and Beulah Ferguson on September 21, 1926, in Austin, Texas. Wendell went to school in the Dallas Independent School District and graduated from Booker T Washington High School and received a degree in Dental Technology from West Virginia State College, Elk Hart Dental Technician School.

Wendell was drafted in 1944 and served in the United States Marine Corp (USMC) during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Taking the train from Dallas, Texas to Camp Lejeune and Montford Point for boot camp was the beginning of his journey to pave the way for many to follow. After his discharge from the Marines, his passion continued for the Marines (Once A Marines Always a Marines - Semper Fidelis), and he joined the Montford Point Marine Association where he served as the National Convention Director and Central Region Vice President. For his commitment to his country, Wendell received the Congressional Gold Metal in recognition for his personal sacrifice and service to his country during World War II.

Wendell is survived by his sons Daryl (Brenda)Ferguson – mother Meadow Lark, Wendell (Vanessa)Ferguson – mother Eileen, David IV(Pamela), Luckett – mother Mildred, and daughters: Sherry Logan Montgomere – mother Helen, and Paula Martin – mother Mildred. Grandchildren: Markus Ferguson, Michael Ferguson, Natalie Ferguson, Rodric Ferguson, Quiona Allen, DeAngelo Morrison, Lacey Traylor, Marlon Logan, Nicole Montgomere, Tori Montgomere, David Luckett V, Danielle Luckett, Joseph Luckett, Jade Landon, and Mina Landon. Niece and Nephews: Stephen Ferguson, Patrick Ferguson, Stephanie Hawthorne as well as a host of great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. Wendell was predeceased by his parents Jack and Beulah Ferguson, wife Mildred Ferguson brother and sister in law Floyd and Mildred Ferguson.
