The Life and Legacy
Wanda L. Wright was born on December 18, 1941 to the parentage of Vervis and Roberta Long. Wanda was raised in Waskom, Texas along with her siblings James (Babbs), Gloria Flanning (Grady) and Linda Crawford (Quente). She was baptized and accepted Christ at a young age at Union Chapel Baptist Church. Wanda graduated from Carey M. Abrey High School now known as Waskom High School. From there she attended Wylie College where she was Miss Freshman U.N.C.F. In 1961, Wanda married William Wright and from their union she had her only child Victor T. Wright (Monica) on April 26, 1962.
Wanda had a long career in custom seamstress. She started her career at Neiman Marcus for 10 years. She worked in the Bridal department at Stanley Korshack until she retired. Wanda opened her own business (Wanda's Alterations) as well as worked part time for her long time friend and employer Elizabeth and Ronaldo Sosa for over 10 years. Wanda was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the pastorage of Pastor C. W. Wallace for 27 years where she serves as a greater and the choir.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Vervis Long; mother, Roberta Long; sister, Linda Crawford; brother, James Long and nephew, Courtney Prince.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Victor Wright (Monica); granddaughter, Delanie Cornelius (Rashad); one great granddaughter, Joah Cornelius; one extended daughter, Sharon Smith; two goddaughters, Latoya Turner and Latanya Woods and a long list of relatives and friends.
