Walter Raymond Jones Jr. was born March 18, 1959, in Dallas, Texas to Walter Raymond Jones Sr. and Shirley Ann Piper. He was the oldest of five children.

Walter also known as Doobie, attended Justin Kimball High School in Dallas, Texas. He worked many years as a Dietary Cook in the Dallas area and lastly for The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. He loved to cook, collect watches, play cards and dominoes, watch cartoons, westerns, and wrestling. Walter loved to make you laugh and was known for holding long conversations. He was affectionately known as "Old School" to his friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Walter Raymond Jones Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories: mother, Shirley Washington, four children, Derrick Burns Sr. (Nicole), Deon Jones, Domonique Gooch-Jones (Kia ), Quincy Gooch-Jones, 2 brothers, Rodney Jones (Sharon) and Roger Jones, 2 sisters, Rhonda "Michelle" Barber (Brandon) and Alecia Karriem, special friend, Alicia Gober, grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
