Viola Williams King
"Sassy'' "Granny" "Queen"
A life well lived with class, charisma, charm and style with a touch of sassy and humor.
She loved her family she was a protector, provider and prayer warrior.
Born to Willie and Leara Williams, on May 26, 1934, she was the youngest girl and 4th child to their union of five. Viola began her early childhood in Bartlett, Texas her family soon relocated to Dallas, Texas where she attended the historical N.W. Harllee Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. At a young age Viola dedicated her life to Christ and united with the Greater El Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, and was an active member of BTU, and Sunday school.
Viola married the love of her life Robert Calvin King in October of 1952, while her husband was away in the U.S. Army, Viola pursued a career in nursing and in 1959 she graduated as a License Vocational Nurse (LVN) having worked at St. Paul and Parkland Hospital. During their union Robert and Viola had 3 children, Brenda, Calvin (deceased) and Kevin. To spend more time with her children Viola retired from nursing to work in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) as a nutritionist while working at John Henry Brown Elementary School she served as classroom mom and the PTA president for 5 years and was crowned Mrs. John Henry Brown for her outstanding fundraising. During her career path her love for fashion and style inspired her to attend Velma B's Beauty College where she became a license wig stylist. In 1988 because of her passion and loyalty to the healthcare profession Viola entered back into the Health Care field and worked as a Private Duty Nurse until 2018 when her health wouldn't allow her to continue loving and caring for others.
A longtime and faithful member of the Bon Air Baptist Church she united under the leadership of her teenage friend the late Pastor James E. Mitchell, Pastor T. L Mitchell is the current Pastor. Viola served in many ministries at Bon Air Baptist Church having serve 49 years on the senior usher board, she served as President of Mission, Corresponding Secretary of the Usher Board and chair of the Golden Ages Outreach Ministry, she enjoyed the Saturday Morning Sunday school Conference calls during Covid-19. Viola was an active member of the National Council of Negro Women (Suburban Dallas Desoto Section) where she was recognized over the years for her commitment and service. She was a recipient of the Celebrate Me! Christian Women United Award for her community involvement and church services. A member of the Highland Hills Neighborhood Association she was a woman of service. Her advice to others was "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, for the Lord was her Sheppard and he blessed her with 88 wonderful years of life.
The Matriarch and a strong woman she was a true and loving mother, she loved cooking, shopping, entertaining guest and was a proud grandmother of 11, great grandmother of 23, and the great-great grand of 8. Viola earthly assignment ended Wednesday, July 13, at 6:30pm at the time of her favorite TV show the Wheel of Fortune she quietly and peacefully sleep away. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Leara and stepfather Willie Brown, husband Robert, Son Calvin and siblings, Curtis, Willie James, Willie Jr, Margaret, Ruby, and Laverne.
She leaves to cherish and celebrate her loving memories, a devoted daughter Brenda, dedicated son Kevin, brothers Sammy and Tommy Williams of New Mexico, sister-n- law Ophelia Lewis, loving grandchildren, caring nephews, Robert, Jessie and Charles, nieces and a host of family and friends.
