"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Matthew 7:7
Vera Mae Thomas Hopkins was born on July 14, 1938, to the union of the late Manuel Thomas Sr, and Louise Thomas in Elizabeth, Louisiana. She attended and received her formal education in the Elizabeth School District. During her high school senior year, the family moved to Dallas, Texas and resided on Frank Street in South Dallas.
With hesitation, Vera did not want to move to Dallas with her loving family. She attended Lincoln High School and graduated in May 1956, where she thoroughly enjoyed her senior year and was active in their Alumnae activities. After graduation, she attended Madam
C.J. Walker Beauty School and graduated in 1961. She worked in the cosmetology field for over 60 years up to her untimely death. It was then when she met her lifetime best friend Joyce Lester in beauty school and they have been inseparable ever since.
Vera and Robert (Bob) Hopkins were married on November 30, 1968 and to that union one son was born, Rodrick Thomas Hopkins in the year of 1976.
Vera's dedication to her work and her genuine care for helping and giving to others made her authentic loving spirit beloved by many. You could always count on her to follow through with her commitments while going above and beyond for everyone she encountered.
Besides her love for her family, her passion was gardening, shopping, exercising, socializing and cooking. She enjoyed shopping at Ross where she frequently used her Tuesday Senior Discount or she would let her personal manager know the store wasn't up
to her standards. She enjoyed working and gardening with her flowers in her yard all day long on any given day. She had the magic growing touch when it came to plants, and she was an extraordinary cook. Everyone loved her cooking, the famous pound cake and spinach dip were two of her many specialties.
Vera accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of Greater New Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.C McNeal. On July 7, 2007, she became a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship church, under the leadership of Dr. Tony Evans, Sr. where she served on the Hospitality Ministry.
Vera departed this life on Friday, August 2, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents: Manuel Thomas, Sr., and Louise Thomas; loving husband, Robert Hopkins of 18 years; brother, Manuel Thomas Jr.; sister, Rosa Lee Clark.
Vera leaves to cherish her memories, son, Rodrick Hopkins; sister-in-law, Betty Thomas; best friend, Joyce Lester of 60 plus years, a host of loving nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends
