Thomas Allen
Batchelor, Jr.
September 27, 1959 – September 7, 2024
Thomas Allen Batchelor, Jr was born in Sumter County Hospital to Thomas Sr and Lillian (née Storey) on September 27, 1959. His sister Beverly joined the family in 1965, residing in the home his father built on Hwy 26. Having grown up in Ellaville, Georgia, he was a country boy through and through. As an avid gardener, builder, and artist Allen's ingenuity, resourcefulness, and creativity thrived. His kindness and charisma was infectious and inspiring.
While in school he played basketball and graduated from Tri-County High School prior to attending Georgia Southwestern College. There he met Lyteese Bess, a friend of his sister Beverly, and they were married in 1984. Their union birthed two children, Alene and Briton. The family relocated as Allen furthered his career to work for the city of Griffin, Georgia.
Throughout his career in Urban Development and Construction he cultivated an expansive community of colleagues and friends. He served on numerous municipal, commercial and aviation project teams across the Southeastern United States, most recently in Dallas, Texas.
Allen was a man whose vibrant spirit, generosity and altruism touched all who had the fortune to know him. He was a beacon of joy, living every day with boundless optimism and a smile that lit up every room he entered. He was the life of every gathering, effortlessly drawing people together with his infectious laughter and warmth.
In every role he took on in life—whether a son, father, sibling, friend or colleague —his love and devotion shone brightly. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished them deeply, always making sure they knew how much they meant to him. He was preceded in death by his son, Briton Batchelor and leaves behind his parents, Thomas and Lillian Batchelor, his daughter and son-in-law, Alene and Tristan Paulk, grandchildren Paisley, Jaxson and Mattias Paulk, sister Beverly Alexander, nephew Julian, many beloved family members and friends.
Though his time with us was far too short, Allen lived each moment fully, savoring the joys of life and facing its challenges with unwavering positivity. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and a reminder to celebrate the blessing of life every day, as he did.
