Harris-Taylor
July 30, 1962 – November 7, 2021
Born July 30, 1962, Tamara Harris Taylor is the only child of Roy and Mercie Harris. Tamara was the widow of the late Leo "Bubba" Taylor, and is the mother of Dadrian and Shitara. She later remarried Sean Felder. In addition to her biological children, Tamara served as a mother figure to countless children throughout her life.
Tamara began her musical training at age seven at Ursline Academy in Dallas, Texas. She continued at Whittles Music Company and Studio 1. She was a member of the Texas Girls Choir for two years, participating in tours that covered the entire United States. Tamara began playing for the Alta Mesa Park Baptist Church at the age of thirteen and also joined the staff of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church as the musician for the children and youth. Tamara served as the Music Director of the Dallas Chapter of The Gospel Music Workshop of America 1991-1995. She was the 1990-1993 instructor of the New Music Seminar for the Texas Mass Choir, presenter of original composition to the James Cleveland GMWA in the Women's council, New Music Seminar, and Children's New Music. Tamara served as the Music Director of the Dallas City Wide Revival- Youth for Christ with over 400 children and youth participating from across the city. Tamara was also one of the few music transcriptionists in the state of Texas, scoring music for people across the country.
Taylor received her bachelor's degree in business administration from North Texas State University in 1983. In 1987, she obtained her master's degree in business administration from Amber University. Tamara became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated in fall 1991.
Tamara spent eight years with the I Have A Dream Foundation where she was tasked with mentoring and counseling at risk youth in efforts to lead them to a successful graduation from high school and on to an institution of higher learning.
Tamara's love for children allowed her the opportunity to teach music at several local schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex such as St. Anthony Catholic School, John XXIII Catholic School, Bishop Dunne High School and Trinity Christian School. It was through this experience that she discovered a need for a place where people could learn, train, prepare for careers in Music. In 1995, she founded Taylor's School of Music which began with three teachers and twelve students.
In 1995, she founded Taylor's School of music which began 3 teachers and 12 students, which has now grown to 8 teachers and over 200 students. In its 25-year existence, TSM has served the community touching lives through its annual Christmas and spring recitals and the "Music & More" summer camp. TSM has also touched thousands of lives through its partnerships with The Family Place, south Dallas Cultural Center, the city of Duncanville, the Dallas Public Library and The Bethlehem Center.
Tamara lives behind her beau and love Sean, her son Dadrian, her daughter Shitara and dog, Patrick.
