Obituary

Simmie Alan Williams, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, surrounded by his family. Simmie was born on July 19, 1940, to the parentage of the late Capers Williams and Arlena Haggerty Williams in Woodlawn, Texas. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. Simmie attended school in Marshall, Texas, and was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School.

As a young man, Simmie married Samuel Nell Alford Williams, who preceded him in death. To this union, three children were born: Rodney Williams, Tamara Williams, and Keisha Williams.

After moving to Dallas, Texas, he worked for Recognition Equipment Inc. —REI — and Vought Aircraft, where he later retired. He and his family joined Griggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in the early 1970s under the leadership of the late Pastor Homer D. Webb, Sr. Simmie served the church well as a dedicated Usher, President of the General Usher Board, and Deacon. He was also an alumnus of Dallas Interdenominational Church Ushers, DICU, and The National United Church Ushers Association of America, Inc. School of Ushering. His favorite devotional hymn was “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah.” He would often set the atmosphere for worship on Sunday mornings.

He loved bowling, playing baseball — “they were the best; REI was undefeated!” — and dominoes. Some say he was the champion at the domino table during family gatherings. In retirement, one of Simmie’s favorite pastimes was watching old western television shows and nodding off in the recliner.

Simmie later married his beloved wife, Frances Harden Sheffield, on November 30, 2008. Together, they shared seventeen years of love, travel, and cherished memories with their blended families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, with the most recent passing of his dear sister, Vannie Mae Williams, just a few weeks prior to his passing.

Simmie leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Frances Harden Williams; three children, Rodney Williams (Brandy), Tamara Williams, and Keisha Williams (Byron), all of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Samone Williams and Matthew Williams; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his sonsin-love: Melvin Harden (Tiffany), Michael Sheffield, Sr. (Tracey), and Willie Sheffield, Jr. (Maria); grand-loves and great-grand-loves.

His extended family includes his sisters-in-love, Shirley Robinson and Beverly Wilson; along with nieces, nephews, friends, church members, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
