Sherri
Chenault
October 15, 1948 – December 15, 2021
Our beloved Sherrie Ann Dickens Chenault transitioned from this life to the next on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, after a lengthy and courageous battle with leukemia. Sherrie was born on October 15, 1948, to the late Henrex and Katie Mae Dickens in Fairfield, Texas. Sherrie is the seventh of ten children.
Sherrie accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church after her family relocated to Quanah, Texas in 1951. She attended Fredrick Douglass High School where she participated in basketball, the debate team, and she enjoyed reciting poetry. Sherrie won several poetry competitions and went to state. As a young teen, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1967. She then attended Drone American School of Business. Sherrie also continued her Christian fellowship at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church and later united with Eastside Baptist Church under the late Rev. D.P. Williams.
In 1970, Sherrie married John Prince; she later re-married Floyd Chenault. For a number of years, Sherrie was employed by Levi Strauss and Gates Rubber Company. Sherrie retired from General Motors in Arlington, Texas, after 40 years of loyal service.
She is preceded in death by her late husband Floyd Chenault; one sister, Effie Meadows; and three brothers, Joel, Lemuel and Henrex Dickens, jr.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories a daughter, Alma Marshell Dickens of Dallas, TX; a son, Curtis Cornell Prince of Houston, TX; a granddaughter, Brittany Sherrie Hawkins of Dallas, TX; a sister, Mary Lou Dickens of Quanah, TX; four brothers: Lonzo Dickens of Los Angeles, CA, Sherman Lee Dickens of Dallas, TX, Robert Dean and Delmer Ray Dickens both of Quanah, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a special friend and co-worker, Danny Mullen.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
