Sharon Sue
Phillips
March 3, 1950 – September 25, 2022
Sharon Sue Phillips was the eldest of three children born in Dallas, Texas to Annie M. Rice and L.E Phillips on March 3, 1950.
Her formal education began at Arlington Park Elementary School; she later attended Oliver Wendell Holmes Junior High School and graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School class of 1968. Sharon was very active in high school. Some of her activities included: Future Business Leaders of America, the Pony Express, Future Teachers of America, Charm Club, Chorale Reading Society, and a Co-Captain of the Mustang Prancers. In the fall of 1968, she enrolled at Texas Women's University (TWU) in Denton, Texas majoring in Home Economics. After two years at TWU, she transferred to East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas where she pledged the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She graduated in 1972 with a degree in Home Economics/Fashion Design. Sharon was known for her soft but compelling leadership, wisdom and was a strong asset in any project she endeavored.
Sharon accepted Christ at an early age and attended the Red Sea Baptist Church, which later became ST. Stephens Community Baptist, under the leadership of Pastor H.L Smith. She later met and married Gregory Watson and from that union one child was born, Gregory Christopher Gaston Phillips Watson.
After 36 years, Sharon retired from the Dallas Independent School District. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Rice, and L.E Phillips; Sister Deborah Watkins; and Brother Leonard Derrick. Those left to cherish her memory are son Christopher Watson, Sister Lynn Nash (Paul), brothers Marcus Phillips (Patricia), Larry Phillips (Karen) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
