Obituary

Shanelle Althean "Nellie Boo" Ashong was a dedicated wife, loving mother, amazing daughter, sister and friend. Sadly, she was called to her heavenly home suddenly on October 14, 2022, at the tender age of 28 years old while carrying her second child.

Shanelle, a proud twin to Sergio Phillips, was born to Paula Glenn and the late Kevin Phillips, on September 2, 1994 in Dallas, Tx, joining her other siblings LeToya, DaJon, Summer and Jaz. Shanelle is survived by her husband Harrison Ashong, daughter Ava Ashong along with 3 nieces and 3 nephews. She also leaves to cherish her precious memories her paternal grandparents Charlie and Arnell Phillips. She is also preceded in death by her late maternal grandmother Althean "Gigi" Guerra.

Shanelle graduated with honors from Desoto High School in May 2013 and journeyed to the west coast with her twin brother where she attended California State University, Fresno. During college, Shanelle studied Marketing and Hospitality Management which led her to various internships with Omni Hotels & Resorts, Clinique, as well being a brand ambassador for global brands Victoria's Secret and Amazon. Shanelle was also a trustworthy PR assistant/escort for numerous BET Network events including The BET Awards, BET Hip Hop Awards, BET Superbowl Gospel, and red-carpet premieres. In 2017, Shanelle followed her passions for event hospitality and moved to San Diego, CA where the stars aligned and she met her loving husband Harrison Ashong in 2018 who is currently serving active duty in the United States Marine Corps. Dedicated and hardworking, Shanelle pivoted to a finance career as an Associate Financial Consultant at LPL Financial and most recently Goldman Sachs in Atlanta.

Shanelle's fairytale life continued on a warm and beautiful spring day in March 2019. Shanelle and Harrison pledged their love by uniting in an intimate marriage ceremony in San Diego, California. In August 2019, they welcomed a healthy and beautiful baby girl Ava Reign Ashong. Shanelle was beyond honored to be a military spouse and couldn't wait to attend the annual Marine Corps Ball every year alongside her doting husband. Shanelle enjoyed spending quality time with her sweet, funny, and energetic 3-year old daughter. Shanelle was an extreme DIY-er, a fitness enthusiast, and obsessed with making organic, all-natural candles for her company Candle Mother. Shanelle enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, spending quality time in Dallas with her mother, siblings and extended family and friends while also spending extended time with family in New Jersey, Atlanta and Florida. Shanelle was a lover of nature especially the ocean and she spent many hours on the beach meditating and listening to ocean waves. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, infectious laugh and sweet demeanor will be missed by everyone who graced her presence.
