Obituary

"Oh no! Not another sister!" was the cry heard on Crozier Street the morning of February 10, 1965. It was that day that God blessed Huverston and Vauline Fisher with another bundle of joy. Their sixth child, a girl they named Sandra LaVerne, joined her four sisters and one brother in the Fisher household.

Growing up in a Christian family, Sandra was baptized at an early age and became a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. She spent her childhood actively participating in church and as she got older, developed a strong belief and faith in God. Sandra eventually joined Calvary Temple Community Church where she was a faithful member until her illness prevented her for working diligently.

Sandra attended Charles Rice and Martha Turner Reilly elementary schools where she excelled academically and graduated from Skyline High School in 1983. After graduating from high school, Sandra matriculated to North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) and in 1987 received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in Personnel Management and Organizational Behavior. With an interest and love in human resources, she started her career in high school working in the Personnel Department at the City of Dallas and while attending college working for IBM. After graduation, Sandra built her career in human resources starting out as a HR clerk and working as a Generalist and Supervisor. She was employed at Neiman Marcus Sally's Beauty Supply, Mary Kay, Haggar and Gulfstream Aerospace where she retired due to health issues.. She was a member of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. With entrepreneurship ingrained in her DNA, Sandra left corporate America for a while and opened Mail & Parcels Plus, a storefront offering mail services, supplies, and limited secretarial support. Due to circumstances beyond of her control, the business closed. This didn't deter her desire to own a business, so she formed Salatea specializing in planning and hosting tea parties for all ages.

In 1995, Sandra married Anthony White, Sr. and to this union sons, Anthony White II and Kaelon White were born. Her middle child, a daughter named Lauren, was stillborn. In 2013, Sandra met Horace Wren at a North Texas Myositis support group meeting for the auto-immune disease they both shared in common. Sandra felt that God put them together and they were engaged in three months and married less than a year. As a couple, they continued their participation in the support group. Sandra and Horace also served in their church, Calvary Temple Community Church, where they were passionate about implementing their New Couple's Connection Ministry and spent many nights developing activities.

Sandra loved her sons and was very dedicated to raising them in a Christian way. She taught Anthony and Kaelon many things including how to cook, clean, plant and draw. Sandra was a financial sponsor and assisted in developing programs for Raising the Bridge, a nonprofit youth organization focusing on engaging youth entering middle school in a meaningful and lasting way. The program, which Kaelon is an active participant, serves youth ages 12-18 through support, mentoring, providing tools to enhance life skills and athletic programs. As a lasting reminder of her love and support, Sandra stored copies away of her favorite book, "No Matter What", about unconditional love for her boys to read to their children.

Sandra had a wonderful spirit and once you met her, she would capture your heart. She was a very creative person who loved to dress, shop, and could put together a stylish outfit within a few minutes. She loved to travel, cook, design and complete arts and crafts projects, and collect teapots. As a young woman, she taught art on a volunteer basis at the Boys and Girls Club. Sandra would spend hours visiting model homes to get the latest ideas on decorating which she incorporated in her home. At family get-togethers she always brought games and prizes to keep everyone engaged. Her favorite saying was "Live your Life" and her life's motto, one of her father's favorites, was "Plan your work, work your plan".

Sandra will be missed by all. She is proceeded in death by her father, Huverston Fisher, daughter, Lauren White, and husband, Horace Wren. Leaving to cherish her memory and legacy are two sons, Anthony II and Kaelon; mother, Vauline Fisher; four sisters, Bobbye Sanders (Willie), Shirley Crothers (JR), Joyce Fisher, and Karen Fisher-Thomas; one brother, Royce Fisher (Betty); four nieces, Camille Sanders Patterson, Cortney Lewis Smith, Jasmine Fisher, and Chandra Ferrell (John); four nephews, Corey Sanders (Candice), Rodney Fisher (Kim), Chris Fisher and Chad Sanders (Precious); 12 grandnieces and 2 grandnephews; adopted sister, Renee Wofford; adopted brother, Theoplis Stewart; members of the Wren family, and a host of cousins and friends.
