Sandra Kay
Austin
August 19, 1952 – March 11, 2023
Minister Sandra Kay Austin was born on August 19, 1952, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Alberta Dean and Frank Dean Sr. Sandra was educated in the Oklahoma City School System and learned to play the piano at a early age. Sandra graduated from Douglas High School and attended Central State University in Oklahoma, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Sandra met Kelly Wilbert Austin Jr. while they were students at Central State University. They married on June 24, 1972. In 1978, the couple moved to Dallas, Texas, where they raised their family of four children. After Pastor Austin was called to the ministry, they began serving the Lord together in various capacities. Sandra ministered alongside her husband as they faithfully led Children's Church. Then in 1995, her husband became Pastor, and she became the First Lady of Greater Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as the Praise & Worship Leader. Sandra preached her first sermon on December 31, 2003. Sandra was passionate about worship and the Word of God throughout her life. After becoming First lady, she introduced a new era of praise and worship at Greater Memorial Missionary Baptist Church with new music and started the first praise and worship team. In June 2011, Pastor Kelly Austin and Minster Sandra Austin founded New Greater Memorial Family Church. She continued to serve as Praise & Worship leader and played for the choir. Sandra also started their first Women's Conference. She was ordained on December 18, 2021. Her legacy also includes a 50-year marriage to the love of her life, Pastor Kelly Austin, and her dedication to raising her children and caring for her grandchildren, extended family, and church family. Sandra transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Sandra leaves to cherish her loving memories: her devoted husband, Kelly Wilbert Austin; four children: Kimberly Dawn Williams (Rawleigh Williams Jr.), Kelly Christopher Austin III, NaKeisha Nichole Chambers (Cecil Chambers), and Samantha Marie Rhodes (Chris Rhodes Jr.); six grandchildren: Rawleigh Williams III, Brian Williams, Lauren Chambers, Addison Chambers, Alyssa Williams, and Chris Rhodes III; brothers: Kenneth Dean, Wayne Dean; sisters: Merline Long, Davetta Stafford, Wanda Jean McNeil, and Irene Hannon; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Dean Sr. and Alberta Dean, and siblings, Willard Dean, Arnell Dean, Frank Dean Jr, Lonell Dean, and Mae Lois Jones.
