Sammie Lee Cherry Mckenzie was born October 1, 1933 to the union of Sammie Dee Cherry and Annie Pearl Watson in Dawson, Texas.
Sammie received her formal education in Navarro County.
Sammie accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She united with Griggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend Homer D. Webb Sr. She was a member of the Missionary Choir and sang in other choirs within the church.
She worked in Culinary Arts, Customer Service, and Cosmetology for many years.
In her leisure she enjoyed cooking, fellowship, going to the casino, watching football games, and spending time with family and friends.
Sammie departed this life on October 22, 2021. She was preceded in death by (Father) Sammie Dee Cherry, (Mother) Annie Pearl Watson, (Daughter) Sandra Lavern Johnson, (Daughter) Claudetta Stokes, and (Granddaughter) Brittney Estelle Harp.
She leaves to cherish her memory Son, Oliver Cherry (Linda); Daughter, Brendetta Castle; Son, Danny Mckenzie (Mim); a special sister Erma "Mae Pearl" Beachum, granddaughter, Sandra Stokes, great- granddaughter, Octavia Stokes, and a host of grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
