Ruby was born to Jesse and Maggie Carey in Tehuacana, Texas in Limestone County on May 13, 1934. She went school in Axtel, Texas near Waco. She lived with her parents and sister and a few other relatives on the Adams Farm.

She married Tommie Joe Driver in 1953. She then moved to Corpus Christi and lived there for a while and then moved to Dallas.

She got her certificate to become a home caregiver and she was very passionate about that work.

She leaves to celebrate her homegoing, daughters Jeanie Avery and Carol Jordan; Grandchildren: Yumekia Nguyen, Melvin Jordan, II, Veronica Jordan and Dominic Avery; Great grandchildren: Josiah Jones, Anthony Washington, David Lazarus Avery, Jay Jordan, Precious Nguyen, Terrell Joyner, II and Larissa Jordan. Nieces; Marilyn Burton and Delores Fielder and host of family and friends. Preceded in death; sister Margaret McDonald and parents Jesse and Maggie Carey and grandson David Lamonte Avery.
