OPENING ACT – HER STORY
A woman, lady, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother & friend: Ruby Jean Wright was born on January 29, 1951, to the late Wesley and Huella Wright. She was the fourth eldest child of five children.
Ruby was a product of Lincoln High School. Graduating in 1969. She later went on to receive her Associate's Degree from El Centro Community College. Working her first job at Olan Mills Portrait Studio. She later transitioned to the Dallas School District as a Data Entry, and she then retired from the school district.

Ruby accepted Christ at an early age. She joined New El Bethel Baptist church with her parents and siblings under the leadership of Rev. B.B. Neal Sr. until his demise. Ruby later served under Rev. V.L. Warren and Pastor Timothy Brown.
Joining the choir at an early age at New El Bethel is when Ruby began singing. Ruby loved singing, especially while singing solos with her sister Evelyn. Ruby also sang with the James Cleveland Choir as well as the Ensemble Choir.
Ruby entered motherhood welcoming her bundle of joy Donald Wayne Porter on June 24, 1972.
On February 23, 1977, Ruby married the love of her life, Walter G. Dewberry. Sharing a special love for one another.
On Sunday, March 17, 2024, Ruby transitioned to be with the lord.
Carrying on her unforgettable memories are her husband, Walter G. Dewberry, her oldest sister Rosie Marie Pierson, her only child, Donald W. Porter, Daughter-In-Law Me'Shelle Porter, Stepchildren; Walter G Dewberry Jr., Anthony Dewberry (Angela), and Zandra Dewberry-Hill (Patrick), Grandchildren, Brittany, Jamal, and Jordan Porter, Keith, Takoia and TaQuishia Larry, Imunique McCauley, and Isaiah Towers. Eight great-grandchildren; Ryleigh, Neveah, Jy'Air Porter, Traveylan, Bry'Lynn Larry, De'Hazel, Qualon, Da'Riyah Wilson. Along with a host of special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Special acknowledgment to a special granddaughter Brittany Porter.
