LIFE REFLECTIONS
"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven: A time to be
born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted."
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
It is in this spirit that we remember the extraordinary life of Rubenstine Miles, affectionately known throughout her life as Ruby. Born on June 6, 1943, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Brince Stumon and Sallie Pearl Rock Stumon, Ruby was indeed a testament to these words. After graduating from Carrie Martin High School, she furthered her education by attending Grambling College, marking milestones with a purposeful stride. Her spiritual journey began at an early age when she dedicated her life to Christ at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. An unshakeable faith accompanied her to Dallas, where she served at Griggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church as a choir member. Not stopping there, she continued at Greater Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church as a beloved member of the Wise Guys Ministry until her health no longer permitted.
"A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, a time to build up." Parallel to her spiritual journey, Ruby's professional career stands testament to her resilience. With 35 years at Texas Instruments and her tenure at Macy's Department Store, she was a woman forever challenging limits and defying expectations.
Life's cycles state, "A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance," honoring the lives of those who preceded Ruby in death, among whom were her parents, brothers Allen Ray and James Brince Stumon, stepsister Ruby Mae Stumon, and her youngest beloved daughter Natasha Denise Stumon.
Though the seasons of life continue to turn, know that Ruby's spirit lives on, not just in fond remembrances but also in the lives of her surviving children: Kelvinal R. Stumon (Sheila), Angela R. George (Terrence), her brother Kenneth Stumon (Nay) of Plain Dealing, Louisiana, a host of grandchildren: Tierny M. George (Quaneshia), Terrence N. George Jr., Ashanti Alexandria Stumon, Alexander N. George, Dalen J. Morgan, and Bryland Young (Kendall), as well as many great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
