Obituary

Rose Mary Smith was Born on January 1, 1951. Rose was the beloved daughter of George and Betty Smith.

From her earliest days, Rose was a bright light fueled by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She found her dearest companion in books, and her avid reading was the catalyst for an imagination that soared to magnificent heights. Rose's extraordinary intelligence was evident when she proudly graduated high school at the tender age of 16. She furthered her education at Bishop College, earning a degree in Communications.

Rose's adventurous spirit led her to the friendly skies, where she embarked on a fulfilling career as a flight attendant with Continental Airlines. For 15 joyous years, she gracefully charted courses across the United States and Europe, embracing the world with open arms.

The great love of her life arrived in 1989 with the birth of her only daughter, Saran Smith. Her heart full, Rose transitioned her career to serve her community in Dallas, dedicating her talents to beloved institutions such as the Dallas Zoo, the Juanita Craft House, the South Dallas Cultural Center, and The Majestic Theatre. She also devoted her time to the City of Lancaster Library and Lancaster Housing, always leaving a mark of warmth and excellence.

Later in life, Rose found her true calling in education, a passion she held dear. She poured her heart into nurturing young minds until her well-deserved retirement from DeSoto Independent School District. Her legacy is not just in the places she worked, but in the countless lives she touched with her gentle wisdom and unwavering kindness.

Rose's memory will be eternally cherished by her loving sister, Brenda Younger; her devoted daughter, Saran Smith; her nephew, Kendell Shannon Sr.; her niece, Hilari Younger-Powell; and a wide circle of cherished family and friends who were blessed to know her generous heart.

She will forever be remembered for her grace, her intelligence, and the boundless love she shared with all. May she rest in eternal peace.
