Rose Mary Johnson was born to the parents of Joel L. Johnson Jr. and Clara Johnson on April 29, 1964, in Dallas, Texas.
Rose received her formal education in the Dallas Independent School District and enjoyed a great athletic career as a proud member of the South Oak Cliff Lady Bears basketball team. It was there that she received her high school diploma in 1981. Her basketball skills and execution afforded her the opportunity to receive athletic scholarships to play at Gainesville College and later Panhandle College. A hand injury unfortunately cut short Rose's promising basketball career. In the Fall of 1985, Rose transferred to East Texas State University (now Texas A&M -Commerce) to complete her degree. In May 1987, Rose earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a Computer Science major.
In 1988, Rose began her career at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in the Registrar's Office. During her tenure she was a part of the Systems and Reporting team. She was responsible for compiling and submitting enrollment data to various educational agencies and the National Student Clearinghouse. Rose would later be promoted to work with Athletic Certification where she monitored and certified the eligibility of all University student athletes. After over eighteen years at SMU, a new opportunity came for Rose to work for Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD). Here she used her expertise to work as a Systems analyst until her health would no longer permit.
Rose served as the Secretary of the North Dallas District for many years and assisted the District Missionary Thea Glover with many tasks. A highlight of Rose's service in the ministry was co-chairing, the 2012 banquet honoring the late, Bishop R. L. Asberry; "The Man, the Legend, the Dream." Rose received many accolades from local churches, political officials, and a congratulatory letter from Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr., the Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ. Rose served as the Registrar for the NTime curriculum for Texas Northeast First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction; where, upon completion of coursework, new Elders and Evangelist/Missionaries would receive their ministry licenses for the Church of God in Christ, Inc.
If a scripture were selected to be a testament of Rose's life, it would be Ephesians 6:6 - "Not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart." Everything Rose did, she did from the heart, and we believe the Lord is pleased.
Rose was preceded in death by her father, Joel L Johnson Jr; sisters, Vickie D. Johnson and Wanda Jo Davis; brother, Joel L Johnson III (Jr).
Rose leaves to cherish her precious memories; her mother, Clara Johnson; siblings: Charlotte Johnson-Reise (Rodney), Donald Williamson, Debra Dawson Carter (Charles), Carolette Barnes, Mona Hamilton, Malcolm Hamilton, Kelvin Henderson (Jenny), Andre Johnson and LaTonya Johnson-Scott (Shaun), Felicia Gray (Kevin); her special Aunt and 2 nd Mother, Ada Pate and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
