Romenia Ford
Montgomery
March 1, 1930 – May 23, 2020
Romenia Ford was born Hannah Ford on Saturday March 1,1930 to David Ford and Sarah Birchmore Ford in Charlotte NC. She was the 11 of 12 children who was raised with much love by her father and oldest sister after her mother passed when she was 4 years of age. She attended school in Charlotte and graduated from West Charlotte high school in 1948.She would go on to graduate from Paine's College in Augusta, Georgia with a Bachelor degree in Sociology in 1952.
Romenia taught kindergarten for a couple of years and in 1955 she married John Henry Montgomery Jr. The two shared three children, Sybil Patrice Montgomery, David Randall Montgomery and Lisa Adair Montgomery.
She began a career with Girl Scouts of the USA at the local level with the Hornets Nest Girl Scout Council in Charlotte In 1969,she would become the first African American on the professional staff of Girl Scout at the National level in Kansas City, Missouri and in 1979 she and her family would move to Dallas, Texas where she would continue with the National Staff. In 1989 she took an early retirement from Girl Scout staying in Dallas.
Romenia served in several capacities in the Church in Charlotte, Kansas City and Dallas always giving of herself at St.Paul A.M.E Church in Dallas.
Romenia has left to celebrate her life and carry on her legacy her three children Sybil (Alphonso) David (Lori) and Lisa, two grandchildren Nicole,Payne (Kwesi)and Alyn Samuel, two great grandchildren Asa and Asaiah Payne, two sisters Salome Ford Williams and Sarah Ford Ferris and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She will be missed but we are eternally grateful that God allowed us to be blessed by her. To God be all the glory!
