Robert L. Mackey was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 31, 1959. He was the eldest of two children born to the late R. T. Mackey and his lovely wife Mae Pearl Hearns Mackey.

"Mackey," as the was affectionally called matriculated through the Dallas Independent School District, graduating from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in 1977. Mackey furthered his education by attending East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas.

Mackey was a freelance professional photographer. He was previously employed by Abbott Laboratory for a number of years. He was later hired by Linde North America, Inc. where he remained until his death.

Mackey confessed Christ at an early age and served faithfully as a member of the Abundant Life Church of God in Christ under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Jones. He was a dedicated member of the usher board until his death.

Mackey was proceeded in death by his father, Mr. Robert T. Mackey. He leaves to cherish his life and memory, his devoted and loving mother, Mae Pearl Mackey, one daughter, Ni'Kevia "Chanet" Thomas, one granddaughter, Kennedi Williams, Brenda J. Mackey (sister), Latrice Mackey(niece), D'Antre Mackey(nephew), Taylan Mackey (great nephew); aunts, uncles, and a host of relatives and friends.
