Obituary

Rickey George Tucker was born on December 6, 1961, in Dallas, Texas. He was born to Byron J. Tucker and Vickie Marie Tucker.

Rickey accepted Christ during his teenage years, beginning a lifelong journey of faith that would remain an important part of his life.

Rickey spent his early childhood years in Amarillo, Texas. In 1970, his mother relocated the family to Topeka, Kansas, where Rickey attended elementary, middle, and high school. He graduated from Highland Park High School, where he developed a love for football and played for his high school team.

Following graduation, Rickey attended Butler Community College, where he continued pursuing his passion for football for two years. He later answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States military.

As an adult, Rickey returned to his birthplace of Dallas, Texas, where he built his life, raised his family, and worked for the Internal Revenue Service.

On March 3, 1996, Rickey joined Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, where his love for Christ was demonstrated through more than 30 years of faithful service in the AWANA ministry. Rickey had a special love for teaching children about the Lord and helping them grow in their knowledge and understanding of God’s Word. His commitment to AWANA was more than simply serving in a ministry. It was an opportunity for him to pour into young lives, share his faith, and help plant seeds that would continue to grow for years to come. His dedication to children and his desire for them to know Christ became an important part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Anyone who knew Rickey knew about his love for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a diehard and devoted fan, and he made sure everyone knew it. From his home to his car, Chiefs memorabilia could be found everywhere. His love for football stayed with him throughout his life.

Rickey also had a deep appreciation for jazz music. Some of his most treasured moments were spent enjoying concerts and sharing his love of music with his grandson. These moments created memories that will continue to be cherished.

Rickey was preceded in death by parents, Byron J. Tucker, Sr. and Vickie Marie Jackson Tucker; his brother, Byron J. Tucker Jr.; sister, Betty Smith; and granddaughter, Kyona Marsai Burress.

Rickey leaves a legacy of love and memories to his children: Richelle Blassingame (Demetrius), Ashley Tucker Green, Brandi Tucker, Mica Tucker, and Tyra Tucker. He also leaves to cherish his memory his loving siblings, Michael L. Jackson; Detra L. Bachus (Reggie); and Libby Grant (Jerold), along with his grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Rickey’s life was filled with faith, family, service, football, music, and countless memories shared with those he loved. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the impact of his life will remain in the hearts of his family and friends. His stories will continue to be told, his memory will continue to be cherished, and the love he gave will live on through the generations that follow him.

A life lived. A legacy remembered. A love that will remain forever.
