Philmore Peterson
Iii
October 30, 1937 – June 22, 2023
The sun rose on October 30, 1937, in Dallas TX at the birth of Philmore Peterson III to the late Philmore II & Jimmie Lee Peterson. Philmore attended Miss Billie's Kindergarten school to begin preparations for an amazing life ahead! He accepted Christ at an early age at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Hunter. As the years grew, his role evolved into him serving as a deacon where he shepherded others to love Christ.
Philmore attended Lincoln High School - Home of the Tigers, where he was known in football for being an outstanding guard! In 1953 he met a beautiful girl named Ruby Cofer and the rest is history as they decided to journey on a life together and build their legacy! Following graduation in 1956, Philmore received a full scholarship to Bishop College in Marshall, TX . Ruby & Philmore gave birth to two healthy & handsome sons Philmore IV & Darrell G. Peterson.
He was a wonderful brother, devoted husband, hardworking father, loving grandfather, & loyal friend. He had many names: Phil, Sonny, Daddy, Pops & Mr. Peterson just to name a few.
Throughout his life, Philmore had many achievements! He was the first black truck driver for Sanger-Harris (Macy's) ensuring all loads were safely transported to their destination. In his later years, he and his family united with Greater Emmanual Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Hudson, where he served as a faithful usher and sung in the male chorus. Philmore retired from Sanger-Harris in 1987 to then start his own small business, Peterson's Lawn Care Service, with the assistance of his wonderful wife as his secretary, while also managing her beauty salon. Philmore was also a dedicated member with WLAA (Washington-Lincoln Alumni Association). During his tenure he served on the scholarship committee, Seargent-at-Arms, but his favorite was the Annual Golf Tournament.
The sun set on Thursday afternoon as Philmore departed his life with us and gained his wings. His father Philmore II & mother Jimmie Lee Peterson, older sister Ruth Weatherford, younger sister Wille Fae Rose and brother James A Peterson preceded him in death.
His legacy will be carried on by: his loving wife Ruby Peterson; his sons Philmore Peterson IV (Janice) & Darrell G Peterson (Pam); in-laws Barbara Turner & Helen Peterson; a host of nieces & nephews; granddaughter Jasmine Peterson and grandsons Michael Peterson, Courtney Anderson, Andrew Barron (Jacqualyn), Jazzi' Peterson, Philmore Peterson V & Money Peterson; and a host of great grandchildren & great great grandchildren.
