Obituary

On September 6, 1948, Peggy Washington Bragg was born to John and Dora Devereueawax in Brandon, Mississippi. From a young age, Peggy knew that she was that she was put on this earth to make it a better place and quickly found her calling in doing hair. Although she had formal training, she often said being a beautician was a natural gift. She was blessed to do hair no matter where life took her. Early in her adult life, Peggy was a hair stylist living in Rockford, Illinois. In 1983 she married James Bragg Sr. and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Peggy took great pride in blending two families into one.

After leaving Milwaukee, the family moved to Sparkman, AR. Shortly thereafter, they added one more son to their family by the name of Jeremy, who she nicknamed "baby boy." Peggy quickly established herself as a valued member of the community, serving as first lady in her husband's church, and opening her own beauty salon, Peggy's Elite. In her salon, one of her well known catchphrases was "More hair" to which she always replied, "Keep it growing." During her career, she was not only a stylist but also a vocational mentor, helping many stylists start their careers. Peggy continued as a stylist until she retired in 2013 and moved to Desoto, TX to be closer to her children.

Peggy was a tremendous woman of faith, who trusted God in everything she did, always ending statements with "if it's the Lord's will." Anyone she met was quickly drawn to her loving but firm spirit; she truly never met a stranger. She loved to get people around her table for a great meal and an even better conversation. Whether you asked or not she would always give you her firm opinion, with a smile; Ms. Peggy was "gone get you right."

The strength she exhibited in her final year of life was a true testament to how special she was. Faithfully enduring her pain, while continuing to befriend and encourage everyone in her path. After reaching what she referred to as her promised years, on January 10, 2019, Peggy peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest in Dallas while surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dora Devereueawax, son; Vernon Washington, daughter-in-law; Gail Washington, brothers; Jessie Washington, Waddell Washington, John Devereueawax, Lonnie Devereueawax, and grandson; Jordan Bragg.

She will forever be remembered by her husband, James Bragg Sr. of Desoto, TX, five children; Janice (Mike) Bragg-Huggins of Gurnee, IL, Jennifer (Eric) Moore of Milwaukee, WI, Steven Goodwin of Dallas, TX, James (Heather) Bragg Jr. of Avondale, AZ, Jeremy (Robin) Bragg of Dallas, TX, one sister; Anna Lee Devereueawax of Rockford, IL, eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and "bonus" children.
