"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto them also that love his appearing." - II Timothy 4:7-8

Paul Harvey Washington, son of Excell Sr. and Thelma Washington, was born in Dallas, TX on March 23, 1951. His parents and two brothers, Excell Jr. and James preceded him in death.

Paul accepted Christ at an early age. He always felt a calling on his life to preach the word which he did at any opportunity. He, along with his family, joined Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in 1985. He became a deacon and served as head of the usher department. He later became a member of the prayer ministry where he served faithfully until he was called home for his faithful service.

Paul graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in 1969 where he met the love of his life the former Gloria Sandles. After dating for a few years, they married on November 6, 1971 and to this union two daughters were born. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage.

Paul genuinely loved spending time with his family. He was so proud of his daughters and always commented what great mothers they had become. His grandchildren were especially the joy of his life calling him affectionately "Papa." You could not spend much time with him without him speaking of his grandchildren or him pulling out pictures to show. He was so proud of the young people they had become.

Paul worked for the United States Post Office for 32 years before retiring. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed traveling.

Paul also loved working in his yard. He called it therapy and relaxing. He also loved to keep his cars in pristine condition.

Paul loved to eat and cook barbecue. He was always so proud when he was able to cook for the family and prided himself in how good it was. The grandchildren always wanted to know when he was planning to cook.

Paul leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his wife, Gloria; daughters, Staci Bell (Raymond), Kelly Hyder (Anthony), one grandson, Christopher Bell and two granddaughters, Katlin and Karringtin Hyder; sisters, Cecile Bennett, Dipara Shannon and Terri Williams; brother, Dennis Washington (Ella) and a host of other relatives and friends.
