Obituary

Johnny Ray Roberts was born January 13, 1957, in Freeport, Texas to the parentage of Chester G. Mack and Julia E. Roberts. Johnny's mother passed away when he was only 12 years old.  Johnny's parents, his beloved grandmother who raised him Callie L. Cox, his brother Mervin Roberts and nephew Carol Roberts preceded him in death.

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

In 1976 he became a graduate of Brazosport High School. Where he was a member of the basketball team. Upon graduating high school, Johnny furthered his education with a scholarship to play basketball at Angelina College. He then transitioned to D Edwin Johnson Theological Seminary, receiving his Associates in Biblical studies in 2011.

"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake."

On September 1, 1983, he united in holy matrimony to Comille A. McCraney. To this union two daughters were born Keiyana and Ariel.

He was a minister at New Hope Church of God In Christ in Dallas, TX in 1984. His assistant pastoral journey began with New Friendship Baptist Church in Lancaster, TX. He later was named senior pastor of Parker Providence Baptist church in Rosser, TX in 2001. He worked at DART for 41 years until he retired in 2020.

Pastor Johnny will leave to cherish his memories: His loving wife; Comille Roberts. Two daughters; Keiyana Roberts and Ariel Roberts-Nookala (Harish). One granddaughter; Averie Roberts. One grandson; Kolby Carter. Three sisters; Pamelia Roberts (Kelly), Jennifer Fields (Carl), Gladys Burnett (Lawrence). Two brothers; Kenny Roberts (Dixie) and Tracy Roberts (Tammy). One sister-in-law; Bobbie Brinkley. Four brother-in laws; Dennis McCraney (Dorothy), Kenneth McCraney, Lige Jr. McCraney (Angie), Stanley McCraney. A host of step siblings, godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
