Obituary

Orie Brooks, Jr., devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 19, 2024 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 78.

Orie, affectionately known as Sonny, was born on September 20, 1945 in Minden, Louisiana. Although Orie relocated to Dallas almost 60 years ago, he remained true to his country roots. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and tending his vegetable garden. Orie also had a lead foot and a penchant for all things automobile,  including detailing and repairs. Orie found joy in life's simplest pleasures and made sure to share those with all around him; everything from down home sausage and down home blues to Westerns and watermelon. He will forever be the king of the family grill with his unrivaled barbequed ribs. Orie often ended his evenings by enjoying one of his favorite sweet treats, Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream. As a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan, he never gave up hope of another Super Bowl win.

Employed by Go/Dan Industries for nearly 40 years, Orie worked hard to provide a comfortable life for his family. While his children all agree that Orie was a fantastic father, he really shined as a grandfather. His grandchildren loved spending time with him.

Orie was preceded in death by his parents: Corrie and Orie Brooks; brothers: Johnny Ray Brooks and Rawlins Brooks; and special aunt: Bernice Dudley. He will be missed dearly by his loving wife, Willie Mae Brooks. Orie leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his children: Tremale Brooks, Sylvia Brooks and Corrie Brooks Byrd (Patrick). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Tremale Brooks, Jr., Cordaro Brooks, Byron Fuller, Yhierly Brooks, and Chloe Byrd as well as his great-grandchildren: Madison Brooks, Tristian Brooks, Karena Brooks, Jyron Fuller, Christian Brooks, Trenton Brooks, Harmony Brooks, Brooklyn Brooks, Cordaro Brooks, Jr., and Zamani Johnson. Orie is also survived by his beloved sisters: Alice Tyson, Essie Kemp (Esper), and Ida Jackson (AB); sisters in love: Allie Jackson and Ruth Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Traces of Orie's character, smile, and quiet strength are left behind for us to embrace not only as fond remembrances, but also as inspiration to be a little more like kindness, goodness, love, and faith. Orie will never be forgotten.
