Oliver Lee Dorrough Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on July 24, 2023, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 73. He was born on November 26, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to parents the late Elmira Wickware-Dorrough and Homer Dorrough, who were married in 1927.
Oliver led a life dedicated to kindness, compassion, and service to others. He was a pillar of his community, always extending a helping hand to those in need. An esteemed entrepreneur, Oliver owned and operated his own air conditioning company, We Fix It A/C and Heating Company, and Dorrough's A/C and Heating Company, for over three decades. His meticulous workmanship and unwavering commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of his countless clients.
Beyond his professional achievements, Oliver was a devoted family man. He cherished spending quality time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Yvette Dorrough, and children: Orleshia Amadi (Dr. Fidelis A.), Oliver Dorrough Jr. (Katrina), Dorwin Dorrough, Armon Dorrough, Meko Sledge (Carl), Jermaine Dorrough Smith, Adrian Dorrough, Roderick Smith, Dwaine Dorrough (Courtney), Anita Johnson, and Misty Plump (Victor). Oliver also leaves behind a legacy of 52 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Ola Martin.
Oliver had a strong thirst for knowledge, particularly in the realm of black history and culture. He was a voracious reader and scholar, engaging in extensive research throughout his life. Oliver's intellectual pursuits were matched only by his dedication to imparting wisdom to others. He generously shared his expertise, teaching countless young men valuable skills and trades. Oliver firmly believed that education and compassion could pave the way to a better future for all.
In addition to his professional and intellectual pursuits, Oliver was a man of faith and served his country through his association with the National Guards. He approached every challenge with determination and displayed unwavering loyalty to his fellow servicemen.
Oliver found joy and relaxation in several hobbies that fueled his curiosity and nurtured his soul. He found solace on the golf course, where he honed his skills and enjoyed friendly competition. As a lover of astronomy and astrology, Oliver eagerly shared his passion with others, enriching their lives with the wonders of the celestial world. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, family and grandchildren, creating cherished memories and imparting invaluable life lessons.
Oliver founded MAAT Temple in 2018, the temple aimed to educate individuals about knowledge of Kemit (Egypt), astrology, astronomy, and other subjects.
Oliver Lee Dorrough Sr. left an indelible mark on those he encountered throughout his extraordinary life. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family and community will continue to inspire and guide us. May his soul rest in eternal peace, forever held in our hearts.
