Obituary

Odell Youngblood Sr. was born on February 6, 1945 in Homer, Louisiana to the late Elmer T. and Bessie Youngblood. Throghout his childhood, he attended Center Springs CME where he accepted Christ and began his walk with God at an early age.

In 1963, he graduated from Mayfield High School and set off to attend Grambling College. In May of 1969, immediately after graduating from Grambling with a Bachelors degree in secondary education, he joined in the United States Army. He served as a Military Policeman in Frankfurt, Germany until May of 1971. Upon his return from the military, Odell decided to pursue opportunities in Texas. He set off for Dallas, with a bus ticket and $5 in his pocket. Once settled, he realized that his life would not be complete without his college sweetheart, Bobbie Durr. They married in 1971 and would remain happily married for 46 years.

Odell joined Cedar Crest CME in the early 1970s. Throughout his time there, he would serve in various roles including steward board, male choir, and care leader. He regularly attended Sunday school and Bible classes and served numerous other functions at his church when needed.

Odell worked for the Ball Corporation, where he was highly regarded for his solid work ethic and moral character, for 29 years and retired in 2006.

Odell Youngblood is preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Jr. Youngblood and Willie Youngblood. He is survived by his precious wife, Bobbie Youngblood and two sons, Odell Youngblood Jr. and Marcus Youngblood (Yasmeen). He also leaves to cherish, grandchildren Lauren, Jaxon, Kordell, and Ivy, three sisters, Essie Turner, Fannie Youngblood, and Shirley Fisher, one brother, Claudis Youngblood (Mildred), two God Daughters, Kayla and Bria Denson, and a host of nieces and nephews as well as brothers and sisters-in-law.
