Ocie Chisom was born September 26, 1930, in Marshall, TX and was the last of four siblings born to parents, Ed and Roberta Chisom. Siblings were: one brother, Edward Chisom and three sisters, Vassie Lee Royal, Ethel Mae Harris and Katherine Jamerson. All are deceased.
Ocie was 6-feet-6-inches tall and was known for playing basketball in school. He came into the ministry in the 1960s. He met and married, Ilean Gaston from Marietta, TX and one daughter, Olivette Chisom-Landers was born to this union. In addition, he gained three bonus children
from this union. On June 16, 1987, he became a member of the Masonic Lodge with a 33rd degree place. Later, on October 9,1987, he became widowed with the passing of his wife.
Ocie retired from DART, previously known as Dallas Transit, on Jefferson Boulevard after 19 years of service. He lived a long, wonderful and fruitful life. He attended Covenant Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Kevin E. Rodgers Sr. for 20 years where he was recognized as the oldest church member.
From his passing, he leaves to mourn: Loving and devoted daughter, Olivette Chisom-Landers; two amazing daughters, Precious Luster Harris and Shelia Davis; one amazing son, Elmer Gaston. Nine grandchildren: Tonesha and Tarion "Man-man" Landers, Cassie and Tiffany Neal, Deonica Gaston Bryant, Eric McJunkin, Catrena Chattman, Crystal Taylor and Ricky Luster; and a host of lovely nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
