Monticue Boyd,
Jr.
January 31, 1945 – January 24, 2025
Monticue Boyd, Jr. was born January 31, 1945, to the late Monticue Boyd Sr. and Birdie
Lee Webster Boyd of Naples, Texas. He was the youngest of five children. Monticue
received his early education in the Naples Independent School District and was a
graduate of Carver High School Class of 1963. He was known for his basketball skills
and led Carver High to a championship. Monti accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and
attended church regularly until his health began to decline.
Monticue continued his education and played basketball at Wiley College in Marshall,
Texas. In August 1965, he left college to join the United States Army, where he served as
a military police officer. He was honorably discharged in August 1967.
He returned to Naples and married his high school sweetheart, James Ella Rainey. To this
union one child was born, Monticue Boyd III. Monticue later married Carolyn Wilson
and they have one daughter, Charletha Roberson. Later year she married Tina Young.
Monti worked for the United States Postal Service for 34 years holding various positions
such as mail handler, window clerk, trainer; just to name a few. He was a dedicated
employee. His employer presented him with a certificate several years in a row for
perfect attendance (did not use any sick time those years). After retirement, he remained
active by traveling, attending sporting events, having breakfast with "The Group",
refereeing girls' softball and volleyball games and going to East Texas visiting with his
"sister". He was the Vice-President of the Carver High School Reunion Committee,
Vice-President of the American Postal Workers Union, a member of the Texas
Association of Sports Officials -Softball Division and a Legionnaire of the American
Legion.
Monti is preceded in death by his parents Monticue Sr & Birdie Lee, his three brothers-
Waymon Boyd, B.J. Boyd, Delwyn Boyd and one sister, Dorothy Mannings.
Left to cherish his memories; his son, Monticue Boyd III (Yolanda), Dallas, TX; three
daughters; Monique (Melvin) Grays, Heartland, TX, Takiyah (Kendal) Douglas,
Lancaster, TX, Charletha Roberson, Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren; Jordan Douglas,
Desmond Douglas, Monticia Boyd, Riley Gordon-Boyd, Brandi Grays, Marcus Grays,
Dyamond Grays, Mar'Shauwn Grays, one great granddaughter, Kailey Grays, a loving &
devoted companion, Michelle Harris, devoted niece JoyceBoyd, Mesquite, TX, eight
nieces; Faye Joyce Wilhite, Dallas, TX, Doris McGready, El Paso, TX, Jackie James,
Dallas, TX, Linda Boyd Kelly, Omaha, TX, Loretta Faye Arthur, Naples, TX, Stephanie
Boyd, Texarkana, TX, Iris Boyd, Texarkana, TX, one nephew Connie Jones, Omaha, TX.,
and a host of other relatives &friends.
Monticue Boyd Jr. lived his life well, on his terms and in his own way. He met countless
people and made a lot of friends
