Obituary

Monroe Allen was born December 18,1942, in Coolidge Texas of Limestone County to the parentage of
Oscar and Lola B. Allen.
He accepted Christ into his life and was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church, Coolidge Texas.
He attended Coolidge Community High School under the educational guidance of Robert S. Briscoe. He
also played on the basketball team as a point guard and was a 2nd baseman on the baseball team, he
earned his diploma and graduated in 1961.
After graduation he enlisted into the United States Navy, where he served 4 years on the USS
Constellation and worked as an Airman. After an Honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to
Houston, Texas and later decided to settle in Dallas, where he studied to become a Journeyman
Electrician. Pastor Allen helped to build the City of Dallas and often talked about all the extraordinary
places around the city he helped to build.
On October 22nd 1966 he married the Love of his life Shirley Elizabeth Foy. Everyone knows the
unconditional Love they shared and often referred to her as his 'Cupcake'. The Beautiful Couple
remained in wedded bliss for 54 ½ years while raising 3 boys whom they loved dearly.
As an adult Pastor Allen worked for several Great companies such as Mostek, Haynes Electric, & Mills
Electric where he then retired in 2005.
In 1966 Rev. Allen along with his family joined St. Phillips Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor
C.J.R. Phillips. In 1977 the family moved membership to Jordan Missionary Baptist Church under the
leadership of Pastor R.M. Robertson where he was called into the ministry on November 3rd 1980. In
1985 Pastor Allen graduated from Southern Bible Institute and for many years helped to teach God's
Children about the Word of God.
In 1992 the family moved membership to Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where his tenure as
Pastor was 30 years from 1992-2022. During his time he served 20 years as Moderator for the Harmony
District, Hopewell Baptist Church was a Blessing to Pastor Allen and he enjoyed fellowship with several
Members, Ministers and Friends.
Monroe Lee Allen departed this life on November 5, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents
(Oscar And Lola B Allen), wife (Shirley Allen) siblings (Ina B Winston, Depriest Allen, Viola Allen) Sister-in-law's: Cynthia Allen, Audrey Allen, Billie Lamb, Fay Crowder, Monte Ray Washington, & Lynder
Whittington. Brother-In-Laws: Bill Garret, Ernest Gates, Kermitt Winston, Alfert Whittington, Lewis
Hadnot, George Alfred Foy, L. Luster Foy, Bernard Foy, Truman Lamb.
To Cherish his memory are 3 sons: Rodrick Allen (Andrea), Lamont Allen (Kourtney), Nard-Wayne Allen
(Denise); Four Grandchildren: Chelsea Allen, Alaysia Allen, Jaden Allen, and Ian Allen. Sisters: Bernice
Hadnot, Barbara Knighten, Ola Gates; Brothers: Lester Allen, Albert Allen, Waymon Allen. Sisters-in-Law:
Arender Teal, Tommie Jane Allen, Cynthia Foy, Mary Foy, Lucy Foy; Brothers-in-Law: Henry Knighten and
a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who were blessed to know him.
From the family thank you Father for being an outstanding and God-fearing man, Wonderful Father-in-law and Loving grandfather. We love you so much.
