Obituary

Remembering Michael
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Michael Defore Sampson,
who departed this life on February 7, 2025. Born on November 12, 1953, Michael was a
devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, and proud grandfather. His kindness,
strength, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Michael accepted Christ at the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ and later joined Pilgrim
Rest Church, where he sang in the choir.
His love for music and worship remained an important part of his life.

He attended Hamilton High School and later graduated from Memphis Technical High
School in Memphis.
After completing his education, Michael enlisted in the military on January 11, 1973.

During his service, he met the love of his life, Mildred Sampson. They built a
beautiful life together and shared 48 wonderful years of marriage.

Following his military service, Michael worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
and later retired from Solae. After retirement, he and his wife relocated to Rockwall, Texas,
where they lived with their daughter, Danya Sampson, son-in-law, Christopher Hill, and
grandchildren, Zachary Michael Miller and Skylar Christina Hill, until his passing.

Michael was a man of deep faith and commitment. After moving back to Memphis earlier in
life, he and his family became active members of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mildred Sampson; his devoted daughter,
Danya Hill; his son-in-law, Christopher Hill; and his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Michael Miller and Skylar Christina Hill.

He is also survived by his sisters: Angela Sampson, Hallimah Muhammad, Geraldine Rogers,
and Maxine Amerine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bessie Sampson
(Muhammad); five brothers, Hercules Rogers, Lionel Rogers, Fred Rogers, Calvin Rogers,
and Johnnie Rogers; and one sister, Ruth Washington.

Michael also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever
cherish his memory.

Michael's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain a guiding light for those he
leaves behind.
