Michael McMillan was born on Sept 5, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to parents Walter C. McMillan and Kathleen Durham Butler. He graduated from W. O. Boston High School in Lake Charles Louisiana where he first met Barbara. Years later they re-connected in the San Francisco Bay area and married in 2003.
He attended Lincoln University in Pa. and graduated from the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961. He was honorably discharged as a Non Commissioned Officer with an Expert Infantry Badge and a Good Conduct Metal.
He was the first black Greyhound driver in Lake Charles, Louisiana and in Dallas, Texas in the late 60's. He was the DBE Liaison Officer for the city of Phoenix, Arizona Aviation Dept. Over the years he was also a small business entrepreneur and owned and operated his own trucking company under the name of-Mac Trucking, Ltd. He retired as an Air Traffic Controller in 1979.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Paul UMC. He later moved his membership to The Village UMC in Desoto, Texas Michael was known to be a very caring person who loved to joke and share stories. He especially loved talking about the history of Dallas during the integration era.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Grandfather Bruce Durham who raised him. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife of fifteen years Barbara Ann McMillan. Sons; Rodney McMillan-Mudd (Felicia Mudd) of Atlanta Ga; Derrick La Verge, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, David, Fondel, Angela Fondel, Keith Fondel & Sheryl Thomas all of the San Francisco Bay Area; Grand children Sydney, Rodney, Krista and Maurita, Sisters; Francis Parks of Syracuse New York, Janice Kathleen Anderson (Israel) of Pflugerville TX, Maryellen Whitlock of Fort Worth Tex, Deborah Peoples of Fort Worth TX, Natalie Candice Whitlock of Fort Worth Tex.; Special aunt Eva McMillan; sister-in-law Jacquelyn Peters (Edmond) Dallas Tx; brother-in-law Gassaway T. Channel (Shelly) of Philadelphia, Pa. Special cousins Jo Ellen Alston, Patrica Blacknell, Sam & Kenneth Walton, Kathy McMillan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
