On June 29, 1938 Earl and Hazel Bush of Hallsville, Texas was blessed with their fourth child a baby girl they named Melva. In Harrison County, Melva attended and graduated from Galilee High School and Valarie Hurd Beauty College.

Melva met and married Leon Briggs and to this union one daughter was born, Leonette Briggs. Melva received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification then worked at Baylor Hospital for many years.

Melva was a faithful member of Progressive Church of God in Christ until her health failed.

Melva was preceded in death by her parents: Earl and Hazel Bush; brothers, Earl Jr., Romeo and E.L. Bush; sister, Evie Bush Buffin.

Her life of kindness will continue to be cherished in the hearts of her children: loving daughter, Leonette Briggs; grandchildren, DeAndre Didier, Destinee L. Briggs, Skylan and Kyron Smith; sister, Yvonne Bush-Hicks; sisters in law, Christene Bush of Dallas, Texas, Dessie Bush of Longview, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.
