Melicu Bray,
Jr.
January 18, 1950 – January 14, 2025
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou intothe joy of thy Lord." - Matthew 25:21
Mr. Melicu Bray Jr. was born on January 18, 1950, in Hugo, Oklahoma, the eldest of two children born to the late Rev. Melicu Bray Sr. and Mrs. Aberdine Bray. The family relocated to Dallas and originally resided in West Dallas before moving to the Highland Hills neighborhood. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bon Air Baptist Church by his late father, Rev. Melicu Bray Sr. He was educated in the Dallas Independent School District and graduated from J.N. Ervin High School in 1968. On August 16, 1975, he married Rosalind Bussey, and to their union, two children were born: Zekiah and Melicu III. His father, Rev. Melicu Bray Sr., pastored Bon Air Missionary Baptist Church, and upon his passing, Melicu continued his membership under the leadership of the late Dr. J. E. Mitchell. He remained an active member, faithfully serving in the following ministries: the Male Choir, Combined Choirs, and Deacon Board. He continued serving faithfully as a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor TL Mitchell until the Lord called him home. Employed by the U.S. Postal Service until retirement, some of his fondest moments (both during and after retiring) were spent singing, playing dominoes and cards, fishing, and grilling (priding himself on being a grill master). Facing some health issues later in life, Melicu's faith never wavered, and he remained joyful, giving, and kind.
Those left to mourn his passing but who will forever cherish his memory are: Rosalind, his wife of 49 years; daughter Zekiah; and two sons, Melicu III (Sheena) and their children, Ayanna and Melicu IV; Almonde and his children, Almonde Jr., Gloria, and Flora. His sister, Celvelli Cross (Winford); and his nieces and nephews, Chrystala, Quantrell, Diavian, and Daranius. Sisters and brothers-in-law include Gayle Barrett (Percy), Dexter Bussey (Kay), Malcolm, and Vincent Bussey (Theresa). His godson, Cantreal Gatson, and honorary son, DaRoyal Price. Honorary grandchildren, Aaron Carrigan and Kaylan Anderson. Honorary nieces, Shamara Martin and Trenay Howard. Honorary nephews, Shawn Edwards and Clyde Williams. Our dear family friend, Paula Martin (for her fruitcake and desserts), along with a host of relatives, church family, and remaining friends.
