Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Melba Lee Murchison August 8, 2024, at her home in Holly Park Apartments,
Mesquite, TX. She was 79 years old. Melba was born on May 11, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia, to her loving parents, George Crittle and Jessie Lee Banks. She spent her early years in Newton, Georgia, and Covington County before moving to Brooklyn, New York, where she built a remarkable life.

After dedicating 25 years of service to the Office of School Food and Nutrition Services (New York City Board of Education), Melba retired and
relocated to Dallas, Texas, to be closer to three of her beloved sons. Melba was not only known for her professional dedication but also for her love and care for others. She participated in the Easter Seals Program, where she provided exceptional support to individuals living with autism and other mental disabilities. She was also a passionate advocate with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (N.C.P.S.S.M), where she fought tirelessly to ensure the financial security and well-being of current and future generations of Americans.

Melba is survived by her five sisters: Jessie Williams, Mary Lanier, Doris Crittle, Gloria Willis, and Georgia Crittle. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Crittle, who passed at the age of 41. She also leaves behind her loving children: Regina A. Murchison, Marshall Murchison & wife Margaret Murchison, Marvin Murchison, Dr. Pastor Stanley Solomon Banks Murchison & wife Twana Murchison, and Harvey Murchison Jr. & fiancé Nicole Hicks, who demonstrated unwavering patience, assistance, and compassion in caring for Melba.

Grandma Melba was a proud grandmother to over two dozen grandchildren who reside in New York and Texas, as well as a beloved aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. A special thanks to extended family members Dina Williams, LaTanya Murchison, and Jannace Murchison for their love and support. Melba was a devoted member of Cornerstone Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Brooklyn, NY, presided over by Pastor Courtney Goulding.

Melba found great comfort in her faith. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, which was a source of strength throughout her life. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want (lack)." She knew that goodness and mercy would always be in pursuit of her because of her Heavenly Father! So after we have mourned a while, let us rejoice and celebrate the life of our beloved Melba, because as believers we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Melba will never again experience pain, fear, suffering, or grief because in the presence of the Father, there is peace, love, salvation, restoration, redemption, and healing
