Mavis went to be with her Lord Jesus on her 95th birthday around 8:40 pm Thursday, July 27, 2017, after being in Baylor Scott White Hospital in Garland, TX, for eleven days. She succumbed to complications caused by her diabetes.
Mavis was born July 27, 1922, in Santa Cruz, Saint Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, and West Indies.
She resided in Garland, TX, in a lovely gated senior apartment community.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Michael in 2002. She is survived by her son, Victor George Martin, and her grandchildren, Trudy and Dean Martin, as well as a brother and sister in Jamaica and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mavis left Jamaica and arrived in Miami, Florida, in 1968 at the sponsorship of a physician's family. After her required year of employment, she began work for a service that provided cleaning for time-shares and privately owned vacation condominiums.
Through the job, she met Mrs. Jenne Fudge, a lady who owned one of the condominiums. Because of Mavis' diligence and fastidiousness, Mrs. Fudge hired Mavis full time to keep her condominium ready for her visits. Even after Mavis moved to Texas, Mrs. Fudge would regularly send Mavis a check until shortly before her recent death. She truly valued and loved Mavis, and Mavis dearly loved Mrs. Fudge.
She became a member of the Casalita Seventh Day Adventist Church in Garland, TX, September 7, 1991. She was well loved by her church family.
She became a proud citizen of the United States June 23, 2004.
