Maurice R. Smith was born January 8, 1983 to Shelly Smith and Michael Cummings who both proceeded him in death. He graduated from John Tyler High School with honors, Sum Cum Laude from Tyler Junior College, and received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University Texas at Tyler.  Maurice was employed by the City of Dallas in the Department of Aviation and Dallas Airport System.

Maurice was united in holy matrimony to Amber Meeks on November 2, 2013 and was a member of the male chorus at IBOC in Dallas, Texas.  In 2014, Maurice and Amber joined a new work as core group members to launch The Word Church DFW. Maurice was currently a deacon in training and served as the right-hand man to his pastor.

Maurice leaves to mourn his wife Amber Smith of Glen Heights TX, sister Desiree Smith and two nephews Eric Smith-Frazier and Shelton Smith-Frazier of Shreveport LA, Uncles: Willie Smith, Lovie Smith (Mary), Aunts: Sandra Davis, Martha Lemons , Chris Ann Gray and a host of other relatives.
