Matthew Jerome Ellis Sr. was born on October 27, 1958, in Tampa, FL to his parents Aaron Ellis Jr. and Irene (Morris) Ellis who preceded him in death. He transitioned from his earthly vessel on October 14, 2025, at the Dallas V.A. Medical Center. Matthew was the youngest of five siblings including Aaron Ellis III (deceased), Calvin Ellis Sr. (deceased), Bernard (Paula) Ellis, Jocelyn (Paul Sr.) Dominique and Tracey (Michael) Beaulieu.

Matthew's early years were spent traveling with his mother, three siblings and father who was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. The family eventually settled in Long Island, New York where he graduated from Farmingdale High School. In 1996, Matthew enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 20 years until his retirement. Matthew received a B.S. degree in Social Work and was employed by Killen ISD. Matthew never met a stranger, and his ultimate enjoyment was bringing laughter to others. His final years were spent enjoying time with family and friends.

Matthew's joyful spirit will live on through his loving and devoted wife Sharron of eighteen years; three amazing sons who love and have the utmost respect for him: Matthew (Krystal) Ellis Jr., Andrew (Stacie) Ellis, Nathanael (Natalie) Ellis and two bonus children Mario Hayes and Tia Holmes. Matthew adored his grandchildren Alexander, Matthew III, Kai Rose, Maxx, Isaiah, Kae and Phoebe. In addition to his immediate family members, there are aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to name who will miss him dearly.
