Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Rowl entered this world on January 4, 1950, in Tatum, Texas, to the parents of George Rowl and Zurline Fite-Gray. From her earliest years, she embodied a spirit of love and service that would leave a lasting mark on all who knew her.

Mary received her education in the Wilmer-Hutchins and Lubbock Independent School Districts. She accepted Christ at an early age and devoted her life to serving Him. A faithful member of Mt. Grove Missionary Baptist Church (now New Waverly Mt. Grove Ministries), she served under the leadership of the late Pastor Simms Drummer Sr. and current Pastor William E. Robinson until her transition.

Her commitment to her church family was unmatched. She served tirelessly for over 50 years on various auxiliaries and committees, including the finance committee and choir. As a choir member, her voice uplifted countless souls, leading cherished songs like "If I Ever Needed the Lord," "Still Running," and "Jesus Can Work It Out." She came from a lineage of singers, and her love for music and worship reflected her deep faith and connection to God.

Mary's work life reflected her creative talents and passion for serving others. In her early years, Mary held a job that allowed her to travel extensively, sparking a lifelong love for exploring new places and experiencing the beauty of the world. She later worked for Texas Instruments and then Garland and Dallas Independent School Districts.

Mary had an unshakable devotion to her family and an extraordinary ability to be everything to everyone. She was the rock—the steadfast anchor her loved ones leaned on in times of need—and the glue that held the family together through every season of life. Mary had an extraordinary love for children, and that devotion began early in her life. At a young age, she naturally stepped into the role of a nurturer, raising and caring for children with a heart full of love. Whether they were family members, neighbors' children, or friends, Mary provided a foundation of guidance, support, and faith. Her home was a haven of love and laughter where she nurtured and raised her three beautiful nieces, Shenequa, Monica, and De'Necia, with endless care, wisdom, and faith.

Her selflessness knew no bounds; she was always ready with an encouraging word, a warm embrace, or a helping hand. She gave of herself tirelessly, ensuring that everyone around her felt seen, loved, and supported. Her presence was a beacon of strength, her faith unbreakable, and her love unending. The cherished memories she created will remain the foundation her family continues to build upon for generations to come.

On December 4, 2024, she departed this earthly life to join her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Wilma Edwards, Thelma Talton, Jarvis Rowl, and Georgia Bailey, and brothers Ervie Lee Rowl and Melvin Rowl.

Mary leaves a legacy of love to be cherished forever by the daughters she affectionately raised: Shenequa Rowl, Monica Rowl Johnson (McKinley), and De'Necia Rowl; her loving sisters Evelyn Jackson and Beverly Steptoe; her beloved brother Cornelius Rowl; grand angels Ethan, Jaxson, Nicholas Johnson & Madison Rowl; lifelong best friend, Bonney Sorrells; and Goddaughter Wyonette Mitchell-Tipton. She will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

Mary's life was a testament to her faith in God, her love for others, and her fearless spirit. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, a shining example of a life well-lived.
