Mary confessed faith in Christ at an early age and united with Bexar Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.L. Robertson. Mary later united with the Griggs Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. H.D. Webb, Sr. and was currently a member of the Kingdom Builders Christian Center of Faith serving in the capacity as Announcing Clerk under the leadership of Bishop Ramsey E. Guillory.
Mary received her formal education in the Dallas Independent School District where she attended H.S. Thompson Elementary School and was a 1966 graduate of Lincoln High School.
Mary and Bruce attended Lincoln High School and were later joined in Holy Matrimony on February 15, 1969 and were blessed with one child, Bruce E. Phillips, Jr.
Upon graduation, Mary was employed with Federal Reserve Bank where she worked for 36 years before retiring December 1, 2003.
She was an excellent cook and loved baking.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, James D. Brown, Sr. and loving sister, Gurtha Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Bruce Phillips, Jr. (Nicole), two grandchildren, Bria and Nicolas; her loving mother, Dorothy Scott; three sisters, Doris (Joe), Deborah (Noel) and Shirley (Jerry); three brothers: James, Jr. (Earlene), Manuel (Lena) and Charles Ray; very special friends - The Fed Ex Girlfriends and her Lincoln Tiger "Boos" - Charlotte and Mary Nell.
The homegoing celebration will commence on Saturday, August 18, 2012 10:00am Griggs Chapel Baptist Church, 1718 Fargo Street, Dallas, Texas
