Mary Elizabeth
Gilmore
April 18, 1943 – July 8, 2022
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Mathis Gilmore was born to the parentage of both the late Luther Henry Mathis and Katie Mae Wilkerson on April 18th 1943 in Greenville, Texas.
As a child she accepted Christ at an early age at Goodwill Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas. She often spoke about her childhood upbringing and love of her family. Gifted with a beautiful soprano voice she sang in the school and church choir.
Mary was a daddy's girl. She loved her grandmother, Mrs. Tisha Murphy and often reminisce about how her dad and grandmother spoiled her. She loved it!
In 1961, she met her true love the late George E Gilmore, Sr. and they were united in holy matrimony on October 30th 1961, in Dallas Texas to this union four children were born Jacquelyn, Antoinette, Kipa and George Jr. In her early twenties, she help raised their children while he operated and owned Gilmore's grocery store & established George Gilmore Real Estate where she assisted as his office assistant and worked at Texas Instruments. Together they were able to travel and spend time with their family fishing and bowling. This beautiful strong woman was always there for her family. She was fun, loving and crazy about her husband and kids. You can always tell if you rubbed her the wrong way because she would bite that pinky finger and let you have it!
Mary was always known for her signature long nails. She loved music, singing, reading books and doing seek n find, and crossword puzzles. Her favorite scriptures were John 14:1-3, Psalm 23. Her favorite gospel song was "I Stood On the Banks of Jordan" by James Cleveland and 'Have You Been Tried In The Fire" by Florida Mass Choir.
Later in her life, she became an Elementary Teacher Assistant for R.L. Thornton Elementary School in Dallas, Texas for 30 years receive several awards and recognition and retired.
She departed this life on July 8, 2022. Mrs. Gilmore was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, and grandmother.
Her memory would be cherished by her three daughters, Jacquelyn, Antoinette and Kipa; one son, George Jr.; her brother, Jermie Lee Armstrong; sister, Louise Rhodes; nephew, Terrance Rhodes; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Sean, Kayla, Brittany, Kellee (Zachary), Meagan, and Morgan; 12 great-grandchildren; along with a plethora of other relatives and friends.
