Marvin K.
Braggs, Sr.
December 25, 1937 – May 14, 2022
Marvin K. Braggs was born in Seagoville, TX, December 25, 1937 to the late Hosea and Ruth Ella Pruitt-Braggs. He received his formal education from Seagoville Elementary School and Seagoville High School in Seagoville, TX. His parents had strong Christian beliefs and instilled character-building, life values, integrity, strength and determination which helped him to become the man that he grew up to be. Shortly after graduating from high school, Marvin joined the United States Army to serve his country. While in the Army, he earned a rank as Private until he received an honorable discharge in 1963.
After his service to the Army, he met and married Verna Jean Alexander on February 14,1964 and to this union, three children were born, Myra, Leslie and Marvin Jr. He loved his family and worked to support them.
He was a man that loved to repair and fix objects. In many cases he would create ways to make things work and function as they should. He was affectionately known as "Ninny Man" or just Unc – short for Uncle. He was also a professional CDL truck driver until he was well into his mid 70's. Whenever he was not driving, you could often time see him working in his yard or just out in the shed tinkering with tools.
He developed a strong and long-lasting friendship that withstood the test of time. While doing so he was reintroduced to the Lord through church fellowship. There he became a trusted deacon and trustee of the Lord's house and took his position very seriously. As his relationship with God strengthened, he grew to love Sunday School and the teaching he received.
He was the tenth child of twelve children, nine of which preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories, 2 daughters: Myra L. Braggs and Leslie R. Porter; 3 sons: Marvin K. Braggs, Jr, Stanley Forge and Shelbert Clark; 2 stepsons, TC Chappell and Billy Wayne Chappell, 15 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ella Ruth Straughter-Wooten and Bobby Jewel Beed; 1 sister-in-law, Rosie Butler; 1 special friend, Elizabeth Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
