Marcus Shane Small, Sr., a cherished father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, entered the gates of Heaven on August 14, 2026, at the age of 54. His sudden departure has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched. Marcus was born on October 22, 1971, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Joanne Small and Billy Ray Craig. 

From an early age, Marcus developed a passion for football. He began playing with the Oak Cliff Dragons and continued pursuing the sport throughout his high school years as a proud Hillcrest High School Panther. He graduated with the Class of 1989. Following high school, Marcus continued his education at Texas Barber College in Dallas, where he pursued and developed his craft as a barber. Blessed with a brilliant mind, disarming wit, and compassionate heart, Marcus possessed the rare gift of creating a sense of community wherever he went. His unforgettable sense of humor, genuine warmth, and outgoing personality allowed him to connect deeply with people from every walk of life. Marcus never met a stranger, and those fortunate enough to know him will always remember the laughter, love, and positive energy he brought into every room. 

Music was Marcus’s true language his comfort, his creative expression, and one of his favorite ways to connect with the world. From this deep passion emerged his musical persona, “Suga Shane.” Through his music, Marcus shared his voice, his personality, and a lasting part of himself with everyone who listened. 

Marcus was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joanne Small and Billy Ray Craig (Ida Craig); his beloved daughter, Shaniah Jones; his brothers, Rufus Small and Kelon Moore; his grandson, Xzavion Valentine; his granddaughters, Saniyah Pettit and La’Riah Chandler; his paternal grandparents, Irene and Reverend Aldie Craig; his maternal grandparents, Georgia Lee and James Jones; and his nephew, Bryant “B-Love” Small. 

Marcus’s legacy of love, laughter, and music will forever be cherished by his children: Shane Pettit, Lateasha Chandler, Clifton Scarborough, Markycia Small, Marcus Small, Jr., Chartadra Landon, Marvion Small, Shanquavia Jones, and Jamaar Small. He also leaves to cherish his precious memory his sisters, Bianca Nobles (James Nobles), Allison Brown, and Jasmeen White; his brothers, Bryant Small, Kevin Small, and Troy Wortham; and a loving host of grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and devoted friends. 

Marcus lived with a rhythm all his own a rhythm filled with humor, compassion, family, friendship, and music. Although his earthly song has ended, its melody will continue to echo through the lives he touched and the beautiful memories he leaves behind. The Small and Craig families deeply appreciate the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers extended to them during this difficult time.
