Luvera Stokes Hunter Humphrey was born April 3,1932 to the union of Henry and Carrie Lee Stokes in Meridian, Mississippi. She departed this life on December 31,2024 at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Mansfield, Texas.
Luvera grew up in Mississippi with her parents, three brothers, and a sister. She began her education in the Clarke County Public School System where she received her high school diploma. Luvera completed her studies at Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
Following graduation, Luvera began her teaching career in Mississippi where she met James Hunter. The two married in 1958 and had their first and only child, Cheryl Denise, in 1959.
The family moved to Columbus, Ohio where Luvera continued her teaching career with Columbus Public Schools from 1964 to 1988.
Luvera united with Traveler's Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the Hospitality Ministry. Upon her retirement, Luvera enjoyed traveling and lived a vibrant life.
Luvera was preceded in death by her parents, brothers A.B. Stokes, Charles Stokes, and Joe Stokes, and sister Vecara Stokes Weems.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Cheryl Hunter Williams (L.J.), two granddaughters, Natasha Lockhart and Kasie Harris, five great-grandchildren, Johnathan Arum, Jordin Lockhart, Matthew Arum, Isaac Sharp, Christian Hunter, along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
