Lonnie Bell was born on May 24, 1939, in Garrison, Texas, to Margaret Bell. He was her only child and was lovingly raised primarily by his grandparents, Betty Gates and Ed Bell, who played an important role in shaping his life. Lonnie graduated from Eunice High School in Eunice, New Mexico, in 1959, and later made Dallas, Texas, his home.

Lonnie was a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in providing for his family. He worked for Safeway as a warehouse worker for more than 25 years before joining the Dallas Independent School District, where he served as a Maintenance Supervisor for more than 20 years before retiring. He was also a proud member of the American Federation of Teachers and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and remained committed to serving his community.

Lonnie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Community Missionary Baptist Church on October 15, 2023, under the leadership of Pastor Oscar D. Epps, Sr. He deeply valued his faith, family, and heritage and took great pride in learning and preserving his family history.

Lonnie will be remembered for his infectious smile, kindness, humor, and positive spirit. He never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. He was also known for his sharp appearance, especially his freshly starched jeans, cowboy boots, cowboy hat, and belt. Lonnie took pride in taking good care of himself and enjoyed working out and exercising regularly, making fitness an important part of his lifestyle.

A proud Dallas resident and avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Lonnie enjoyed road trips, casino visits, music, and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved the music of Charlie Wilson and The Gap Band.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Valeria Bell; granddaughter, Tamika Bell; mother, Margaret Bell; and grandparents, Betty Gates and Ed Bell.

Precious memories of Lonnie will forever remain in the hearts of his daughters, Billie Bell and Lonice (Charles) Stoker; grandchildren, Quincy Bell, LaToya Bell, LaKendria Bell, Ashton Stoker, and Carrington Stoker; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and The Thomas Family, a very special family who opened their hearts and made Lonnie a cherished part of their own family, along with many other relatives and friends.

Lonnie’s legacy of love, kindness, laughter, and family will continue through the generations he cherished and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
